Pregnancy & Postpartum

Feel supported
through every
stage

Pregnancy and the postpartum period ask a lot of your body. Gentle, hands-on osteopathic care can ease pain, restore balance, and help you feel more like yourself — whether you're 12 weeks pregnant or 12 months postpartum.

During Pregnancy

Pain relief that's safe at every trimester

As your body changes week by week, the strain on your joints, ligaments, and muscles increases significantly. Osteopathy helps your body adapt — reducing pain, improving mobility, and supporting your nervous system throughout.

Treatment is always adapted to your stage of pregnancy. I use gentle, safe techniques — no high-velocity manipulation, no pressure on the abdomen.

Common conditions I treat during pregnancy:

  • Pelvic girdle pain (PGP)
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Rib and mid-back pain
  • Round ligament pain
  • Pubic symphysis dysfunction (SPD)
  • Hip and groin pain
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Headaches
  • Swollen ankles and legs

Postpartum Recovery

Helping your body recover after birth

Birth — whether vaginal or caesarean — is a significant physical event. Add the demands of feeding, carrying, and caring for a newborn, and it's no surprise that so many new mothers experience pain and tension in the weeks and months that follow.

Postpartum osteopathy helps your body rebalance, release tension held from pregnancy and birth, and recover its strength and function. You're welcome to bring your baby — we'll work around them.

Common postpartum concerns I help with:

  • Lower back and pelvic pain
  • Tailbone (coccyx) pain
  • Caesarean scar recovery
  • Neck and shoulder tension from feeding
  • Wrist and hand pain (De Quervain's)
  • Postural strain from carrying
  • Fatigue and whole-body tension
  • Diastasis recti support

A note for new mums

You don't have to just push through it

So many women are told that pain during pregnancy or after birth is just "part of it." It doesn't have to be. Most of what I see in clinic — pelvic pain, back ache, neck tension, wrist pain from feeding — responds really well to treatment.

You're also welcome to bring your baby to every appointment. There's no rush, no judgment, and plenty of space for feeding breaks.

Your First Visit

What to expect

Your first appointment is unhurried and thorough — I want to understand your full picture before we begin.

01

We talk first

I'll ask about your pregnancy or birth experience, your current symptoms, and your general health. This conversation is one of the most important parts of the process.

02

Gentle assessment

I'll assess your posture, movement, and the areas of concern — using my hands to feel for tension, restriction, or imbalance. Everything is adapted to your comfort and stage.

03

Hands-on treatment

Treatment begins in the same session. I use soft tissue work, gentle joint mobilisation, and cranial techniques as appropriate. You remain fully clothed and in control throughout.

04

Advice and next steps

I'll share what I found and any self-care advice — gentle exercises, positioning tips, or lifestyle adjustments — to support your recovery between visits.

Questions

Common questions

Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy is gentle, safe, and adapted to each stage. I use techniques that are appropriate for your trimester and avoid any pressure on the abdomen. Many women find it one of the most effective forms of relief available to them during pregnancy.

When is the best time to start treatment?

Any time. Some women come in the first trimester to get ahead of postural changes, others come in the third trimester when discomfort peaks. Postpartum, I recommend coming in as soon as you feel ready — even a few weeks after birth.

How soon after birth can I come in?

Generally from around 4–6 weeks postpartum, or earlier if you had a straightforward birth and feel ready. For caesarean births I usually recommend waiting until your 6-week check. Every situation is different — feel free to get in touch and we'll work out the right timing for you.

Can I bring my baby to the appointment?

Absolutely. You're welcome to bring your baby — I'm used to it! If your baby needs feeding or settling during the session, we simply pause. There's no rush.

Do I need a referral?
